Affordable way to collect reprints of pre-code, early 1950's horror comics from legendary publisher EC Comics (Entertaining Comics).The "EC Annuals" contain 5 editions of the 32-page comic books. These are comic book size (7 x 10 inches), printed on cheap pulp newsprint, with the limited color palette available in the 1950's. These are the most inexpensive EC reprints. The others are: the "EC Archives," printed on high-quality coated stock using the latest in computer-generated coloring, in deluxe 8 x 11-inch hardcovers; and the "EC Library," which printed the comics from the original art in black & white, in larger 9 x 12-inch hardcover volumes.I personally like the authentic look and feel of these EC Annuals - while reprinted in the 1990's, it's like reading a real 1950's comic. EC had 3 similarly-themed horror comics - "The Vault of Horror," "Tales from the Crypt," and "The Haunt of Fear." Stories from all 3 were used in the "Tales from the Crypt" HBO TV series from the 1990's.This EC Annuals volume (released 8/8/97) is Vol. 4 of "The Haunt of Fear" and it contains:No. 16 Aug (Published Nov 1952);No. 17 Nov (Published Jan 1953);No. 18 Feb (Published March 1953);No. 19 May (Published May 1953);No. 20 Aug (Published July 1953).You may still be able to get these on publisher Russ Cochran's website for around ten bucks.
