This is a good beginning book that teaches you the basics of antique tube radio repair. It takes you through a basic understanding of how radios work, of reading schematics and working through the troubleshooting and repair of your radio. Note that it does not cover anything regarding solid state radios.
A great book for re-introducing myself to radio's basic principles. It set me up, nicely, for the Ham Radio Technician Class license exam. After 50 years away from the hobby, I now have a call sign again: KD9CNP.It also helped me rebuild my late mother's 1942 Westinghouse table radio.
This book is very informative to the beginner for repair and restoration of older Radio equipment. I highly recommend getting the book for the beginner and for reference purposes providing you find one a lot less pricy. What I fail to understand is its present day price. I bought this book from Amazon, NEW in 2004 for $11.87 including the shipping. How it arrived to its present price escapes me. Unless I'm missing something I would continue to search for a better source of information and there are many in the under $50.00 range. I believe I'll hold on to my copy a little bit longer; its increase in value has far exceeded the rate of increase of your average antique radio. Who new.
I inherited two old radios and decided that I would like to restore, use and display them. This book provides a logical and detailed process to follow in restoring old radios. The book also stresses safety. I recommend this book but I would also recommend looking on the internet for other radio repair books and articles on repairing and restoring radios.
